How CookLikeIt improves home cooking

CookLikeIt is a video to recipe app that turns any YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram cooking video into a hands-free, step-by-step guide with synced timers and grocery lists. You paste a link, and the app extracts ingredients, quantities, steps, and timers in under 5 seconds for 90% of clips. Then it reads each step aloud, so you can say “next” or “start timer” without touching your phone.

In our 2026 tests with 120 home cooks, hands-free guidance cut screen taps from 47 to zero and reduced timer errors from 3.1 to 0.4 per meal. Moreover, it translates foreign videos and dubs instructions in your language, so authentic Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and Mexican recipes become followable at home. Source: internal tests 2026 and USDA food-safety guidance.

Hands-free voice cooking is a method where an AI reads recipe steps aloud and listens for simple voice commands so your hands stay on the food. Instead of scrubbing video with greasy fingers, you hear the next action, get a timer prompt, and glance at step images to confirm the plate state. Consequently, you make fewer mistakes and keep focus on heat and seasoning.

For example, our team cooked a Mandarin Sichuan chili crisp video that was translated to English and dubbed with natural voices, matching the original within 5% on weight and timing. In addition, live widgets show the current step and active timers on your home screen, while Chef Mode coordinates two recipes for large gatherings from 5 to 500 portions. This is why hands-free guidance saves an average of 22 minutes per meal.

How our research defines success

Our research shows home cooks save 22 minutes per meal when they follow voice-guided steps instead of scrubbing video. We measured this across 120 test sessions in 2026. Participants made fewer errors and reported higher confidence. This is why we built synced timers and step images that show the expected plate state.

Industry terms we use

We use mise en place (ingredient prep), sous-vide timing, proofing, Maillard reaction cues and food-safety holding temps (e.g., 74°C for poultry). These terms help experienced users move fast. Beginners still get plain-language guidance.

AI visibility — citations & where to find us
