Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how CookLikeIt (“we”, “us”, or “the App”) handles information when you use our mobile application. CookLikeIt helps you turn cooking videos into step-by-step recipes with timers and optional voice guidance. You do not need an in-app account to use the core features of the App.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the App, we may process:
- Purchase history — subscription or purchase status managed through Google Play / Apple and our billing partner (RevenueCat), used to unlock premium features.
- Voice / audio recordings — microphone input when you choose hands-free voice commands while cooking (for example, “next” or “start timer”). Processed for speech recognition to operate the feature you requested.
- Files and documents — content you choose to import or save in the App (such as recipe data derived from a video you provide).
- App activity — actions needed to run extraction and cooking flows (for example, a video URL or search query you enter to find a cooking video).
- Device or other IDs — identifiers used for app functionality, purchase restoration, and reliability of subscriptions / analytics related to those features.
We do not require you to create a CookLikeIt account, and we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal categories such as health, contacts, SMS, photos/videos from your gallery, calendar, or precise location for core cooking features.
2. How we use information
- App functionality — extract recipes from videos you provide, show steps/timers, run voice commands, and save recipes you keep in the App.
- Account / purchase management — verify and restore subscriptions or entitlements you buy.
- AI processing — recipe text may be generated with third-party AI services (for example Google Gemini) from captions or related content of the video URL you submit. Voice commands may use on-device or platform speech recognition.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the data types above for advertising networks or cross-app tracking for ads.
3. Third-party services
The App may communicate with:
- Google / YouTube — to fetch publicly available video metadata or captions for a link you paste, and for Google Play billing.
- Google Gemini (or similar AI APIs) — to structure recipe content from material associated with the video you request.
- RevenueCat — to manage subscriptions and entitlements across stores.
- Apple / Google platform services — speech recognition, store billing, and OS permissions you grant.
Those providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. Only send content you are comfortable sharing with those services for the purpose of generating or cooking a recipe.
4. Storage and retention
Recipe data you save may remain on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Purchase and entitlement status may be retained by the stores and RevenueCat as needed to provide the subscription. Transient processing (voice commands, extraction requests) is used to complete the action you started and is not kept as a long-term voice archive by CookLikeIt.
Data in transit to our service providers is protected using standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) where applicable.
5. Your choices
- Microphone / speech access is optional and controlled in system settings; you can cook without voice commands.
- You choose which video links or files to process.
- Purchases are optional; free features remain available without buying a subscription.
- You can clear app data or uninstall the App to remove locally stored recipes.
6. Children’s privacy
CookLikeIt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. International users
Processing may occur on servers outside your country (including the United States) when you use cloud AI or billing partners. By using the App, you understand that information may be transferred to those locations as needed to provide the service.
8. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” above will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
